This is an incredible responsibility, placing a heavy burden on its network technology and support personnel. Recurring issues started to cause problems, ranging from connections to service quality to server loads. The company needed to rethink its network monitoring and troubleshooting approach when its infrastructure surpassed 120 servers across two data centers.

"A lot of our client’s overall customer experience and satisfaction falls on us since we provide and host online storefronts for bookstores," explained Alex Anseel, network and systems officer for Titelive. "We get calls whenever the website is down, functioning improperly or even just running slow. Any one of these issues can drive customers away, especially with so many retail options available online. We take that very seriously and have built a thriving business on our ability to deliver time and time again."
 

Challenges

Titelive's network and underlying technology grew larger and more complex as e-commerce platforms and customer expectations advanced. Reoccurring issues started to cause problems, ranging from connections to service quality to server loads. The company needed to rethink its network monitoring and troubleshooting approach when its infrastructure surpassed 120 servers across two data centers.

"As our systems grew, we simply couldn't keep pace and really needed help monitoring and troubleshooting our network and applications," said Anseel. "We'd try to track issues to their root cause, but couldn’t follow them from node to node. There were way too many variables, especially since the issue could live on either side of several firewall layers. It was a nightmare."
 

Solution

Titelive needed a solution to safeguard client business. The company set out to find an integrated network and application monitoring system to ensure customer retention. Several solutions were evaluated before Anseel and team selected TruView combined with OptiView XG Network Analysis Tablets from NetScout.

Titelive also found benefits with larger, unexpected issues. A few months after installing the TruView, several client websites were attacked and taken offline. Anseel used the TruView to find out what happened, quickly identifying the root cause, determining that nothing was compromised and restoring website traffic before client business operations were impacted more than necessary.
